Maui Ballet was borne from the idea to support young dancers on Maui in unique ways during the Covid-19 pandemic. As 2020 spring performances were cancelled across the globe, young artists were unable to showcase their work for live audiences, leaving them with unfulfilled dreams.
Traveling to Maui weekly for over 27 years offering her expertise in training and choreography, Virginia Holte has both a long history in classical ballet, and love for the Maui dance community. As the founder and artistic director of West Hawaii Dance Theatre & Academy on the Big Island, she envisioned a way to continue teaching her Maui students thru virtual instruction. “Passing it down to the future generation” is what keeps classical ballet alive.
Believing that performing for audiences is an integral part of a young dancer's education. Maui Ballet’s first effort will be the 2021 Spring Performance Project - a unique and safe opportunity for these dancers to realize their dreams.
